With a large fleet of vehicles operating across the UK, it is vital for Liberty to be able to real-time manage their resources, to provide high levels of responsive Customer Service.

About Liberty Group

The Liberty Group is an independently owned heating, maintenance and renewable energy specialist with over 40 years of experience in the industry. The Group consists of three core divisions: Liberty Gas, Liberty Energy and Liberty Maintenance.

Liberty Gas is a specialist heating services provider to public, domestic and commercial clients across the UK. Established in 1969, it offers professional gas installation, maintenance and servicing, as well as energy solutions and electrical installations.

The Challenge

Liberty realised that they may not be operating in the most effective way to maximise the productivity of their resources, engineers and vehicles and that when emergency calls were received they could not be sure they were selecting the most appropriate team to respond. At the same time they were experiencing tighter client reviews of their performance against SLAs(Service Level Agreements).

The Recommendation

Affini recommended the fleet-wide deployment of a vehicle tracking solution Lunar – to enable Liberty to plan routes more efficiently, increase the number of tasks assigned to each vehicle per day and allocate emergency tasks/call-outs to vehicles nearest the site for rapid deployment. The reporting tools within Lunar would allow evaluation of fleet efficiency that can enable a reduction in future costs and the scheduling of management reports on vehicle activities to review performance against client SLAs or investigation of vehicle usage queries.

Implementation & Support

Installations were scheduled alongside other routine maintenance or in the case of new vehicles, installation took place before they were commissioned to the fleet to ensure minimal disruption to operational requirements for vehicles.

Throughout the deployment stage Affini assisted Liberty Operations Managers with the conversion of paper based forms into electronic templates to ensure job sheets and other vital documents could be completed in real-time. Liberty’s fully managed service includes first line desktop support for operators using the software, along with maintenance and repair to cover fault reports and equipment replacement requirements.

The Result

Twelve months on since the initial use of Lunar Liberty’s Group Operations Director, Peter Kitson completed a survey on its impact on the business. He confirmed that the implementation of Lunar vehicle tracking has:

  • Improved operational performance
  • Enabled the business to achieve real-time processing
  • Enabled the business to rapidly respond to emergency calls

He added that the implementation of Lunar has led to a restructuring of resources within Liberty which will, in time, deliver savings for the business.

A major health and safety benefit of Lunar is the ability of Liberty Managers to review and re-educate their drivers about driving patterns and safe driving procedures by referencing telemetry data reports generated from the system.

The product has been well received by managers and supervisors who use Lunar on a daily basis and as they become more familiar with the product Liberty will see the cost benefits.
